Noznisiance is a philosophical movement to create a new type of religion.

Faith is the means by which we survive doubt,
                not the means by which we eliminate doubt.

In Noznisiance, in order to make the best choices, we must take into account as much knowledge, wisdom and opinion as the circumstances allow. It is because we have doubt that we must consider our actions carefully.

There are no secret society's, cults or faiths with exclusive rights to truth. There is no knowledge given only to priests, rabbis, clerics or lamas which supersedes the knowledge of god which is part of the mystery of every conscious being and surrounds us all from birth..

Humans have a multitude of religious beliefs. The numbers of Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists and Christians number in the hundreds of millions each. Judaism, Jainism, Shintoism and Animism provide vastly different perspectives on the meaning of human existence and the nature of god (gods). Yet almost all religions insist that all other religions are false paths, believing facts that are based on false premises and false prophets.

Noznisiance believes that all religious traditions have value. It is less important to argue whether or not the teachings of any one religion are true, but rather, whether or not the teachings are useful, meaningful, poetic or morally right.

Let the whole of human experience be fertile ground for the growth of our religious knowledge.

Most religions measure their believers piety (i.e. how "good" you are a Christian, Muslim, HIndu...) by the extent to which they have faith in the religion. This prevents change, because many new ideas are considered heretical deviations from the original religion.

Yet radical change in the way religions are practiced is self evident in human history. Fore example: All three of the biblical religions contain many "Old Testament" laws for women not having the right to express an opinion, not being allowed to attend religious service and even being a soleless domestic animal.

Through a long process of protestation and an overall learning of humility, women's religious equality has become widely accepted as favorable and more true to our values. The inflexibility of the biblical religions creates a paradox where the scripture clearly tells us to believe in mans superiority to women, while societies based on biblical religions proudly flaunt the political and spiritual equality of women.

As a religion, Noznisiance is a work in progress. In order to love a god mysterious beyond any one persons comprehension, may we grow, through continued thought, prayer and discussion, knowledge of the wonder and meaning of life, existence and continually redefine what we believe.

Contemporary religious traditions can not apologize. The Old Testament can not apologize for advocating genocide and oppression in the "Holy Land", nor can Islam apologize for promising divine ecstasy to martyrs. Generations of pain and suffering do not illicit an apology from "divinely inspired" religions. However, in Noznisiance we can say, "We were wrong."

Since we are not defining a perfect or "divinely inspired" set of rules or beliefs, but are instead striving to accommodate a divinely inspired discourse, we will at times make mistakes. May we be so blessed as to admit our follies rather than to repeat them.

Religions gain strength and appeal through the use of symbolism. Stories are allegorical, myths are metaphorical and traditions gain meaning through successive generations.

When a symbol is considered to be the deity rather than a representation of or pathway to the deity, the symbol becomes an idol.

With full acceptance of our own fallibility, Noznisiance begins its symbology with these four presumptions.
